Pioneer in sustainable fishingWe are furthering the preservation of marine habitats
At Gottfried Friedrichs, our sense of responsibility is not confined to our own products. We have long been committed to the preservation of fish stocks and are playing a pioneering role in Germany in this respect.
Gottfried Friedrichs and the WWF:FRIEDRICHS official sponsor of the WWF Centre for Marine Protection
Gottfried Friedrichs has been a
partner of the WWF (german website) and official sponsor of the International WWF Centre of Marine Protection in Hamburg since 2006.
Since 2008, FRIEDRICHS has also been supporting the WWF in the
Kamchatka Bering Sea protection project. Located in the far eastern corner of Russia, the Kamchatka Peninsula is one of the last untouched wildernesses of our earth and home to one of the largest reserves of wild salmon. However, roughly 50 percent of the Kamchatka wild salmon is endangered by illegal fishing according to the WWF.
The main aim being pursued by our family-run company together with the WWF is to establish sustainable fishing in Kamchatka. As part of these efforts, FRIEDRICHS introduced the first
Kamchatka wild salmon from monitored shipping in Germany in May 2008.
In addition, FRIEDRICHS is working with the World Wildlife Fund on projects aimed at achieving long-term ecological improvements in aquacultures for salmon and trout.
Committed to maintaining our eel smoking traditions:Supporting efforts to preserve the eel
Gottfried Friedrichs is a family-run company able to look back on a long tradition. In fact, it has its roots in an eel smokery founded in Wittenberge on the River Elbe. It is therefore only logical that it remains committed to this very day to preserving this particular species.
To this end, Gottfried Friedrichs applies a systematic sustainability strategy to its own range of products.
Thus, we use solely freshwater eel from top European sources and are committed to promoting sustainable fishing in this segment.
In addition, Gottfried Friedrichs has been actively involved in the establishing an
initiative to further the preservation of the European eel (german website).
