Organic salmon and trout from aquaculturesNaturland guarantees controlled biological rearing of fish
Plenty of space to move, balanced nutrition and living conditions which live up to expectations - these are factors which are crucial not only for the wellbeing of humans ... Fish also require conditions in keeping with their specific needs in order to achieve healthy growth. However, the strong global growth in demand for fresh and deep-frozen fish is leading to drastic declines in the natural reserves of fish in oceans, lakes and rivers. For this reason, one third of global fish requirements are addressed by aquacultures today.
Back in the mid-nineties, Naturland issued guidelines for the ecological operation of aquacultures. Today, it certifies more than 15 different fish, shrimp, mussel and algae types. 46,000 companies all around the world observe the strict guidelines issued by Naturland. Among other things, the Naturland seal guarantees that the animals are bred, reared and fed in accordance with the requirements of their species using high-quality ecological feed. Inspectors visit the certified companies once a year to ensure that they are continuing to observe the guidelines; accordingly, the Naturland seal gives consumers a high degree of certainty as annual recertification is required.
Enjoyment with a clear conscience - certified organic salmon and trout
Salmon require space and lots of movement as they are used to swimming against strong currents. Accordingly, low density is an important factor in the Naturland-certified salmon aquacultures located in selected parts of the Atlantic Ocean. Consequently, there is no more than 10 kilos of fish per 1,000 litres of water. This gives the salmon plenty of space to swim, allowing them to preserve their firm flesh.
The fish are processed just as naturally as they are reared. The salmon may only be salted by hand and smoked over local beech and alderwood.
Trout are also in their element in the clear waters of the Naturland ponds. Here as well, there is no more than 10 kilos of fish per 1,000 litres of water. As predators, trout particularly require animal protein and non-saturated fatty acids. They receive feed derived solely from sustainable fishing as well as organic cereals. This balanced nutrition and development in close to natural conditions characterised by plenty of space make organic trout a true delicacy for organic-aware gourmets.
